The atmospheric storage tanks produced by CB&I for the Thacker Pass lithium mine will store various process solutions, chemicals, and products that are used during the multiple stages of purification to extract lithium from clay deposits. These tanks, designed to meet stringent environmental, seismic, and safety requirements, will be constructed using CB&I’s proprietary field construction methods and state-of-the-art fabrication capabilities.
Sandia National Laboratory hired CBI Services Inc. and the Boilermakers to increase precision for high quality data and shot capacity. This project included detail engineering, procurement, fabrication, and field installation of the redesigned Z Machine’s structural components.
Working for CBI Services, Boilermakers manufactured and built 10 miles of specially-fabricated, close-tolerance, stainless steel tubing to contain laser beams in a vacuum. By monitoring changes in those beams, scientists believed they could detect the presence of gravitational waves. After years of testing and upgrades, they were successful.
CBI Services has built 75% of all nuclear containment vessels in the United States and supplied 41 reactor pressure vessels, including eight that were field-erected, and has exceeded 10 million hours of performing repairs, modifications and maintenance to nuclear plants in operation. CBI Services provided critical execution expertise to get Vogtle 3 and 4 completed, which are the most recent nuclear power units in the U.S., using Boilermaker union labor to construct those critical containment units.
